Masters Preview

Last year in Augusta was one of the all-time great Sundays at the Masters, and this year could be even crazier given the way the golfing world has kicked off in 2026. One of the biggest stories coming into this year's tournament is the rookie class. Chris Gotterup, Ben Griffin, and Jacob Bridgeman are three names that stand out, especially Gotterup, who has a great chance to become the first rookie to win since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979. McIlroy will obviously be defending his Grand Slam win from last year. He is coming in without his best form, but with that weight off his shoulders, he should feel far less pressure heading into Augusta. Other big names like Scheffler, Rahm, and DeChambeau will likely find themselves at the top of the leaderboard come the weekend. My dark horse heading into the tournament is Daniel Berger. Berger has been in solid form recently, with his best performance coming in Orlando at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he dominated all week but could not quite get the job done. He has a strong track record on difficult golf courses, so expect him to have a good week in Augusta. However, the man who will be walking up 18 on Sunday to a standing ovation from the patrons, green jacket in hand, will be Justin Rose. Rose has come so close so many times, including last year when he lost in his second Masters playoff. He has only won one major, at Merion in the 2013 U.S. Open, but it is about time he gets another.

UConn 63 - Michigan 69

UConn, the top program in college basketball over the past few years, came into the Championship game as the underdogs. The Huskies had a wild run to the final, highlighted by an incredible comeback against the Duke Blue Devils capped off by a last-second buzzer beater. Meanwhile, the Wolverines bullied their way to the final, beating every opponent in their path by double digits. UConn stayed in the fight all night, but Michigan was simply too much to handle. It was a defensive battle from start to finish. Both offenses struggled, particularly from beyond the arc. A major problem for UConn was foul trouble, as their two star guards spent much of the night on the bench and struggled to get anything going when they were on the court. The star of the National Championship game was Michigan guard Elliot Cadeau, the transfer from UNC. Cadeau is one of the best defensive guards in the country and he proved it, while also excelling on the offensive end with a game-high 19 points. Michigan's Morez Johnson Jr. was equally brilliant, recording a double-double on the biggest stage of his career. Karaban and Reed Jr. played their hearts out in their final games as Huskies, but this Michigan team was simply on another level. The Wolverines basketball program has struggled in recent years, but Dusty May has completely turned things around. May has utilized the transfer portal to reshape the program's trajectory and has assembled, this year, one of the greatest college basketball teams we have ever seen.
